While many independently published books are classified as nonfiction, more and more authors of all genres are successfully promoting their works through marketing channels outside traditional publishing. The big publishing houses are no longer the only way to get a work of fiction into the hands of readers and fans. At our October 10 SLPA meeting, you’ll hear first hand advice from an author and publisher who has charted an exciting course in the dynamic world of publishing.

You’ll learn about:

  • The effectiveness of blog tours
  • Why advertising isn’t the best use of your dollars
  • How to build your social media presence
  • Why networking works
  • How to organize a book signing

And more…

Our speaker, Kristina Blank Makansi, while working on editing and revising her historical mystery set in Ancient Greece, is also writing a futuristic Young Adult trilogy in conjunction with her two daughters. In 2010, she co-founded Blank Slate Press with the mission to discover, nurture, publish and promote new authors from the greater St. Louis region and beyond. Blank Slate Press has now published three novels, has two more due out before Christmas, one due out in late Spring 2013, and has its first non-fiction title due out in October.

She will talk about her experiences marketing Blank Slate Press’s novels and what she has learned in her efforts to get the word out about both a new publishing company and her debut authors.
